The Spirit of Freedom: Why We Are Here
This book is a real-life adventure that explores the Human Spirit’s desire to be Free. Using
thoughts and ideas from prominent thinkers and writers, an imaginative approach is taken to
describe some of life’s common pathways (table of contents) that are experienced while growing
up and maturing. These pathways enable the reader to separate out issues of: emotions,
feelings, behaviors, goals, courage, character, ideals, independence, self-respect, family,
relationships; to provide more perceptive and manageable insights into the world they live in.
The ‘plot’ developed for answering the question - why are we here? uses ‘character driven'
behaviors’ that help develop one’s sense of direction, motivation, individuality, optimism
purpose and truth. The reason for our being here is revealed in the final chapter.
The strategy for the latter part of this book is to explore freedom in a more worldly
context: democracies, examples of US Patriots for Freedom, freedom of enterprise,
freedom vs politics, scientific and philosophic contrasts, global cultures and their
respective beliefs; so as to become more open-minded to the need for respect and
restraint when dealing with those of different cultures who have different views.
Our US Constitution is used to illustrate a system of governing that was designed
for a moral, spirited and freedom loving people. Every citizen the age of 21 or older
is encouraged to participate (vote), work for a better democracy and a better world,
to seek a Global Unity by fostering The Spirit of Freedom.
The Mind and Imagination according to Albert Einstein is more important than knowledge
for vigorously seeking the Truth and Freedom.
The Objectives of this Book:

Author’s Background and Experience:
Tom Richards, Littleton CO, holds a graduate degree in business, computer science, and
human behavior. Enjoyed a 30+ year career in the creative info-technology field of knowledge
management. Spent many hours of volunteer time with Youth and Families: YMCA, Big
Brothers, Scouts, Young-Life ...... and a Dad.
Explored many additional pathways: a brief military career, skiing/ski jumping, climbing in
the high mountain peaks, assisted in avalanche control and mountain rescues at Sun Valley Idaho,
lived and experienced the emotions and behaviors that he writes about in this book such as: fear,
courage, a strong will, compassion, respect, risk, discipline, determination, family/teenagers,
success and failure, teamwork, challenge; and cherishes his “Spirit of Freedom.”
